Ash: Is the ML series processor dual core or single? (can't remember - TL is dual) That may be part of the issue if there are background processes running. You're also likely to be limited by the graphics.

My laptop is a TL-52 X2, 2gb ram and a Radeon x1300 128mb dedicated memory, running vista. I usually get 30-60fps (vsync limited at 60) on TC servers, it varies quite a lot depending on the number of cars in the area etc.

A general note for ATi Drivers - the vista ones are faster then the XP ones in my experience.

Also, be careful when updating graphics drivers on laptops, they can be quite picky about getting the right version.

Yep! I've now got all LFS setting maxed out and 4x and 8x AA and AF at 1900x1200 resolution getting 59.9FPS in singleplayer! LFS looks fantastic!

Then I found something like this: [FPS limited to: 30fps] and above this there was this: [FPS unlimited: No] I changed that to [Yes] and now I got up to 45-50 FPS

Just changed mine to NO and now getting 200 - 225 FPS in single layer, Did someone mention setting it to 30 FPS Max ??

Well , there is no point in haveing more than 30fps really, but its better to have more so if there is a sudden area of low FPS, it dosnt take a while for your PC to catch up/lag...

So LFS allows you to set it to a fixed number or unlimited.

If you have a good PC, i dont see why you wouldnt set it off, but otherwise, id limit it to about 60fps. Not shure for the exact reason for doing this, but this is what I have been told...

I use "Fullscreen verticalsync", so the fps is the same as screen refreshrate.
this prevent "pixel tearing", witch is tearing in the grapics when game goes faster than the screen or something, it also keep it at a stable fps(75 in my case)

But with modern monitors and GFX cards, there is no tearning i can see.
Also i have to have my Vertical Sync forced off for armed assault - dosnt like it. Also you wqill lose some frames to vertical sync AFAIK

Ehrm, I wont loose any notisable fps on my sytem over Verticalsync, but a dude leaving pit gives a stutter sometimes(bug in game) :P

I like my steady 75fps, so I'll leave it at that :P

iv gota 4 year old(!!) lappy thats gota AMD 64 3000+ 512mb ram( gettins upgraded to 1GB coz my old memory seems to be corrupt) and a ATi 9700 128mb pro.
I run 1280 X 800 on good graphics with AA AF ect all on pretty high/max.
I get about 30-50FPS and i think its limited. Iv got all latests stuffz n CCC.

Just a point about CCC to any1 that uses it, onces you'v set evrething how you want it ctrl+alt+ del then find all the processes (i normally have 3) called CLI.exe and kill em. they waste memory and arnt needed unless yur tweaking with CCC. i have had about 7 before (on older reslease) it clones its self for an unknown reason. so just get rid of em so they dont eat your memory. normally 2 of them are about 4mb and one is about 20-30mb. Dam lil things.

Jason: I reckon you're probably limited by the CPU - LFS CPU requirements has been slowly increasing what with more accurate physics, sound etc.

My 4.5year old Athlon XP3200+ struggles a bit when a lot is happening, usually managing 28-50fps on a fullish server. I recently upgraded to a x1650 512mb which improved FPS a bit, but nowhere as much as in other games, which indicates CPU limitation. I have 1.5GB ram, so that isn't an issue with me.

My laptop does much better than my PC in LFS as it has a better CPU (TL-52 X2) - the graphics aren't so good (X1300 mobile, 128mb) so it doesn't do as well as my PC in more graphically intensive games.

As far as VSync goes, you do get tearing with it turned off if you're getting lower framerates in particular. It's not that noticeable in LFS but it is in some other games. If it doesn't cause any problems, you may as well turn VSync on as there's no point in your graphics card updating more often than your monitor does. Yes you can have the bragging rights of saying 'OMG I GET 200 FPS!!11!' but as you can't see more than 60 or 75 (or whatever your monitor refresh is set to) it's kind of pointless. Oh, and BTW, the LFS physics engine's outer loop runs at 100Hz, so there's REALLY no point having the frame limiter off or any higher than 100fps.

AFAIK the human eye/brain can only see/proccess about 30fps so more than that is no use :)

40-50 ish actually ;) (depends on the person) Tested mine at 48 :p

Edit: I do notice a difference between a solid 30 and 40 on lfs - don't really notice much higher on an LCD
